The Coastal Plain Conservancy Corporation has established a partnership with The Lacassane Company, Inc., to manage conservation easements restoring both coastal prairie lands and pine savannahs. The Lacassane "Illinois Plantation" mitigation site is planned as a Coastal Prairie restoration project. One area currently being restored is the site of an abandoned well. Progress is being made to restore this acreage to its natural prairie state. Heavy equipment is used initially for the leveling of the ground and "pimple mounds" are created (below, center) to facilitate the planting and cultivation of native prairie grasses and plant species. This page will be updated as progress is made at the old well site.
